Persona 5 is a role-playing video game developed by Atlus for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles. Persona 5 is chronologically the sixth installment in the Persona series, which is part of the larger Megami Tensei franchise. Persona 5 was released in japan in September 2016. It had a recent worldwide release on 4th April.
Persona 5 is a High-school simulator, dungeon crawler and many more things. What’s best about persona 5 is it combines all the elements harmonically without one element overpowering the other, in other words it is a perfectly balanced game. There are not many games which can combine different elements as perfectly as persona 5 does.
If i were to sum up the game in one word i would say it is Stylish.
In fact the game is so stylish you would feel that developers of other games are slacking off. Every menu, dialogue, cutscene in this game is so beautifully crafted you can feel the love the developers have poured in this masterpiece. The dialogues in this game are like the dialogues you see in comics they are kept in a jagged box which is pretty cool. There are unique animations after a battle gets over, there are anime like cutscenes.
Lets start with the story( Don’t worry i will keep this review spoiler free,i am not a spoilsport). Persona 5 takes a bold approach and plunges you directly into battle where the protagonist is in a casino from which he is trying to escape with the police at his heels. He gets caught and is bought in for interrogation. Here the story moves back and forth while Sae Nijima interrogates the protagonist. The protagonist is a normal Japanese high-schooler when one day he gets into some trouble with the police and gets a criminal record, so he is sent off to Tokyo under the care of sojiko sakura. From here on out our silent protagonist starts his high school at Shujin Gakuen where he awakens to his persona and finds like minded people who were oppressed by the society. Therefore they create a group called “Phantom Thieves” and they start to follow their own sense of justice and ” Change Hearts” of criminals. This is all i can say for now to keep it spoiler free.
Now lets talk about the combat in Persona 5. If you have played earlier versions of final fantasy you would have a general idea of turn based combat. It has turn based combat. Enemies have different strengths and weaknesses so you just have to hit them with their respective weakness. Persona 5 is different from other persona series because it add a new feature called “Hold Up”, when all the enemies are down you can initiate a conversation with them. You can either ask the enemy for items, money or to become your persona. The combat though turn based kept me satisfied.
But what i like about Persona 5 is the small things, the level of detail the developers have put into this game. At your first day at school you literally have to change two subway stations like real Japanese high schoolers. You can go about our daily life doing many kinds of things some of which are book reading, maid cafe, making coffee, diners, big bang burger etc. You can also spend time with confidants. There are lot of things to do in this world.
Persona 5 beautifully combines high school/time simulator with excellent dungeon crawling with exciting puzzles and a variety of dungeons
The characters of this game are so relatable and lovable. Not in every game i find myself hyped if my favorite characters did something amazing in the game. I almost threw my controller at the TV because i felt irritated by a certain character. In recent years no game has gripped me as this game has. The characters just feel so real. The AI is this game is also very good, sometimes the characters show good sense of humor.
Nowadays every game i play i play it on HARD difficulty but persona 5 is the first game for me i had to move the difficulty back to normal. The normal difficulty is hard enough for this game. (No i am not talking about Dark soul series). Also this game provides enough content as the main story itself takes 100+ hours to complete. This game is not meant to be played in a single walkthrough.
Persona 5 grips you into its exciting double life, normal high school student by day and phantom thief by night with its lovable characters and extremely well written plot
